UPDATE: Putin asks for ideas on wider use of Russian OS from 2022

MOSCOW, Nov 26 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the government to present by November 1, 2021 suggestions on expansion of the use of local mobile operating system Avrora from 2022, according to a statement released on Thursday on the Kremlin’s website.

“The government of the Russian Federation together with (state-controlled telecom operator) Rostelecom are to ensure further exploitation in state entities and state-funded medical and educational institutions of technical devices, working on the base of domestic mobile operating system Avrora and purchased to hold the all-Russia population census in 2021,” the statement read.

Putin also asked for suggestions to expand the application of Avrora from 2022, including in state-funded medical and educational institutions.  

A Rostelecom spokesperson told PRIME, “On orders by the president of the Russian Federation, we’ll work in team with the interested ministries and agencies to expand the use of the single Russian mobile operating system Avrora.”

“We’re ready on orders from the relevant ministries to prepare a comprehensive solution on the basis of local devices with operating system Avrora.”

The 2021 census will be Avrora’s the first large project, which includes preparation of infrastructure, software, and manufacture of 360,000 local tablets, the spokesperson said.
